Shiner was not shown much as a puppy, he was a late maturing dog. Championship Earned September 9 1992

Shiner had a difficult time in group competition. We believe this was due to his smaller size and light build as in comparison to other basenji specials at the time. Shiner measures 17" and his ideal weight is 23 pounds. Many to the male basenji specials during this period were 18" in height and 25 pounds. Group competition tends to favor the larger more substantial basenji, we hope in time this will change, and will continual to special lightly built basenjis.
Shiner competed with two Northwest Top Ten Bitch, during this period he earned 38 Best Opposite Sex placements

Unofficial Record - February 95 to December 96

Shiner was specialed up til fall of 1996. We will be requesting a Official AKC show record to date so we may accuratly include his placement during February 95 to September 96 period. During this period Shiner earn 30 or so Best of Breeds placing his career over 100, a few more group placement, and many Best Opposite Sex placements. In 1997, Shiner was offically retired.

Age of the Family Pedigree

Shiner's pedigree is exceptionally old.

Shiner's litter was comprised of 5 puppies, two males and three bitches.

Two litter mates are healthy and living well.
St. Ch. Jumoke's White Lightning, (Flash) is owned by Bryan Gregory, Jumoke Basenjis.
Ch. Jumoke's Red Vixen of Baru (Vixen) is owned by George Woodard, Baru Basenjis.

The remaining two female were placed in pet homes. Their owners have move out of the area without leaving forwarding addresses, their status is unknown.

Ch Jen-Nell's Kris Kringle was born 12-24-80, passed away due to cancer in 1993.
CH. Anasazi Chatelaine Du Sienji was born 12-9-85, is healthy and living well.
Am./Can CH Ch Anasazi's Whidbey Osiris was born 12-3-83, is healthy and living well.
Ch Anasazi's Edelweiss O'Tennji was born 11-29-81, passed away due to complications after whelping 12-89.
Ch Tennji's Anasazi Foxfire was born 11-26-80, passed away due to old age 6-97

Family Health History

The following are identification of health related issues.

Shiner health history is sound for the first 3 generations of his pedigree, this includes the littermates of the dogs listed and their possible offspring.

Dogs are identified by footnotes following their names. Shiner pedigree has been thoroughly investigated, but due to the age and common practices in early breeding programs, health histories are not available on some of the older dogs.

1. Second and third generation, died of Cancer
2. Second generation, Ch. Anasazi Bandit O'Tennji, full brother to Ch. Anasazi Chatelaine Du Sienji. Bandit is the sire of a known Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) inflected dog, Ch. Anasazi's Ezetta Scirocco. Only occurrence in Anasazi and Tennji lineage, and suspected as notof a hereditary nature, Sirocco's entire litter was suspected of being subjected to in uteral infection, resulting in many congenital health problems, two puppies had severe joint problems. Sirocco was also subjected to numerous injuries through out her life, including several injuries to the head.
3. Third generation, severe allergies related to fleas
4. Third generations, sire or dam of a Fanconi syndrome dog.
5. Fourth generation, three, possibly more, full brothers and sisters died of Fanconi Syndrome. One owned by Judy Lange, one Judy Secaur, one by Laura Pond. This breeding was repeated three times, producing more than 18 puppies. Ch. Tennji's Anazazi Foxfire is suspected as genetically clear of Fanconi, by having not produced an affected dog after several breedings and line breedings on her, through out all decedents.
6. Fifth generation, died of Fanconi Syndrome
7. Fifth generation, suspected death due to Immunoproliferative Small Intestinal Disease (IPSID) also known as Malabsorption Syndrome.
8. Fifth generation, sire or dam of a Fanconi syndrome dog.

Health Testing

Hips, Shiner has been cerified OFA Good
Eyes, Shiner's eyes are examined regularly, and are clear of PPM, PRA, Coloboma's etc. We have not sent in the fees to CERF him, but probly will do such on his next examine. Examines are performed by the Animal Eye Clinic, Inc., P.S. (206) 524-8822. Those which wish to varify Shiner's eye examines may request a release from Jumoke Basenji's and contact the Animal Eye Clinic directly.
Thyroid, Shiner is tested routinly for thyroid. Results are in bottom end the normal range.
H.A., Shiner has not been tested for Hemolytic Anemia. There has been no occurances of HA in his pedigree, Many of the dogs in his pedigree were tested during the 70's
Fanconi Sydrome, Shiner's Dam, Shiner, Vixen, and Flash are stripped tested regularly, results are always negitive.
Umbilical Hernia, Shiner does have a very slight Umbilical Hernia. Our breeding program with Shiner's lines has shown this to be a 50% occurance. Those dogs which have Umbilical Hernia's are small and always seal closed by 6 months of age.
